I was a bit surprised to here the comments by Mitch Brisebois on all the Venture people attending this Monday’s DemoCamp3 – or nerdcamp as several of my friends have termed it.Hey Mitch! I’ve been attending almost all of Ottawa *camps! :-)But Mitch is right on his main point – this time round there is a marked increase in venture participation with Leo Lax from Skypoint and Robin Axon from Ventures West in the room. We’ll also have Mike Dunleavy from Labarge Weinstein – a boutique lawfirm that caters to the start-up/venture backed crowd (they’ve attended before, I believe). So maybe it is turning into a mini-venture fair. The above group is a good mix – my attendance is of course a little less important – it should be noted I have no direct influence on any of the investments our group does, unlike Robin or Leo. So I’m just looking to see neat technology – and maybe thats why real VC’s are attending. These events are a relaxed way to interact with local entrepreneurs – and unlike venture fairs the pressure is a lot less on all participants – its casual – thats a good thing.
