Startup Camp – Toronto

Austin Hill best known for founding Zero Knowledge is helping to organize Startup Canada. This comes about after what he terms a “depressing” Canadian Venture Capital Association conference in Toronto a few weeks ago. I wasn’t there and haven’t been to a CVCA conference in probably 3 years (maybe longer) I attended them regularly before I went back to school in 2003.From my experience and probably the reason Austin wasn’t all that impressedwas that these events were for Series B/C or Mezz rounds. Very rarely did a Series A come about from a CVCA conference in my experience. I’m not sure it was conducive to angel/series A investments. With the (relatively recent) rapid change in capital needed for startups you would think that pre-money/pre-carpet/post-idea companies might be given some floor time there but I guess thats not the case.Since Startup Canada is the very early stages of organization (though it will be held in Toronto) now maybe a good time for entrepreneurs and angels/VC’s to contribute ideas to make sure they got they want/need out of the conference.
