Free Coffee

Welcome to my under-used rarely updated blog – I promise to fix this over the coming few days. In the mean time, enjoy this cool little bit of news. Along with my recent conversion to Public Transit, most days (with the caveat of using my SUV for certain things), I also have the brilliant Starbucks Travel mug (brilliant in that it never, ever leaks) with it Starbucks gives me a 10-cent discount for saving them a cup. But this Earth day, April 22, they’re just going to throw their ‘fair-trade’ coffee into any reusable cup for free. This was one of the ideas that Starbucks came up with with their “Shared Planet” Initiatve which is trying to involve ‘social media’ to have patrons come up with product ideas and ways to improve Starbucks in a bottom-up kind of way. Its an interesting Model, and I just read a Masters Thesis on its impact both inside and outside Starbucks on how this has dramatically shifted the management dialogue on new ideas within product development.Cool stuff.
